How to Make the Outstanding Tiny Desk AI Video: Sing Lead at Your Own Desk Concert From a Photo

The Outstanding Tiny Desk AI trend, step by step: which photos to use for the lead, keys and sax, what happens in the 19 seconds, how to add the trending sound, and what it costs.

How to Make the Outstanding Tiny Desk AI Video: Sing Lead at Your Own Desk Concert From a Photo

A band crammed in front of a wall of records, a singer belting "Outstanding", cracking up mid-note and waving it off, a sax solo, and a fist in the air. That's the Tiny Desk AI meme that took over TikTok in October 2026. Here's how to make it with you as the lead singer, from one photo.

What is the Tiny Desk AI trend?

It's a 19-second AI parody of a famous office-desk concert of "Outstanding", the 1982 Gap Band hit. New faces take the places of the singer and the band. It started on 18 October 2026 with a TikTok of college football coaches whose teams had just lost, and spread to NFL staffs, group chats, coworkers and friends.

Our Outstanding Tiny Desk AI template follows that viral clip: the five shots, the moves and the exact timing, with you and your friends instead of the people in it.

How to make it

  1. Open the Outstanding Tiny Desk AI template.
  2. Add one to three photos. Photo 1 is you, the lead singer. Photo 2 plays keys, photo 3 plays the sax. Leave 2 and 3 empty and strangers take those seats.
  3. Pick a version and generate. Premium renders the full 19 seconds; Balanced renders a 15-second highlight.
  4. Download the MP4. It's silent.
  5. Add the trending Outstanding sound in TikTok or Reels and post. The full version is cut on the original's timing, so it lines up from the first second.

What happens in the video

  • 0–1.4 s · Side profile: you in profile, head down, before you turn to the camera.
  • 1.4–6.7 s · The band: three backing singers belt the first line, then nod and pump their fists while the keyboard player plays.
  • 6.7–13 s · Your close-up: you look up and sing, crack up on camera, wave it off and laugh with your head thrown back.
  • 13–16.4 s · Sax solo: the saxophonist takes the solo, with the keyboard player smiling in the foreground.
  • 16.4–19 s · Fists up: the band sings the last line and one fist goes up high.

The Balanced highlight is the middle three shots: the band, your close-up and the sax solo (15 seconds).

Which photos to use

  • One clear face per photo. Chest up, eyes and mouth visible, no sunglasses. Photo 1 matters most: the lead gets a big close-up.
  • Mind the seats. Photo 1 sings lead, photo 2 is the keyboard player who's in the band shots, photo 3 is the saxophonist.
  • Good light. Daylight or a bright room keeps every face recognizable in the warm office light.
  • Only people who said yes. Your own photo and friends who are in on it. Never strangers, coaches, celebrities or other public figures, and never children.

The backing singers are always generated strangers, and they never look like you or your friends.

Does the video have sound?

No. The song isn't ours to include, so the MP4 is silent. Pick the trending Outstanding sound in TikTok or Reels when you post; on the full 19-second version your laugh and the sax solo land on the beat.

What does it cost?

Premium (the full 19 seconds) is 35 credits at 480p, 75 at 720p and 130 at 1080p. Balanced (the 15-second highlight) starts at 15 credits. You can also buy a single video at checkout without an account. No watermark, and failed renders and rejected photos are refunded automatically.

FAQ

Do I need a photo of me singing or holding a mic? No. Any clear photo works. The office, the band, the instruments and the mics are generated.

Can I make it alone? Yes. One photo makes you the lead singer and everyone else is generated.

Is this an official Tiny Desk video? No. It's a fan-made AI parody of a meme, not affiliated with or endorsed by NPR or its Tiny Desk Concerts. Keep the platform's AI label on when you post.

How long does it take? Usually a few minutes. Your photos are reviewed first, then the video renders.
